At 91, Lazaro de Mello Brandao is among the oldest serving bank chairmen. His decision to step down has triggered a succession race for that position in one of the largest banks in Brazil. Mr. Brandao will be replaced by the current chief executive officer, Mr. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi. Luiz will hold the two positions until March when the lender will select a new CEO for the bank. The executive, Mr. Brandao, started work at the age of 16 as a clerk in 1943.
