Who is Likely to Succeed Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi as Bradesco’s CEO?

At 91, Lazaro de Mello Brandao is among the oldest serving bank chairmen. His decision to step down has triggered a succession race for that position in one of the largest banks in Brazil. Mr. Brandao will be replaced by the current chief executive officer, Mr. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi. Luiz will hold the two positions until March when the lender will select a new CEO for the bank. The executive, Mr. Brandao, started work at the age of 16 as a clerk in 1943. He eventually became one of the chairmen the bank has ever had; the bank has had only two chairmen and four CEOs since its establishments.

In his statement, Mr. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi told journalists that for the continuity of the bank there is a need for renewing its board. Mr. Luiz who holds the Bradesco number one employee badge also said that despite his resignation, he would remain in charge of Bradesco holding companies. Brandao fostered a promotional culture that ensured that the bank’s executives were promoted from the existing employees. This is a course that the bank opts to keep even after Mr. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi’s retirement. The bank will pick his successor from the remaining top seven executives, while the name will be announced at its shareholder’s meeting.
